Cinematography - 14/09/2018

Cinematography - the camera and what you see on them. Position, colour, lens, depth of focus, framing & composition, shot sizes, angles and movement. "The discipline of making lighting and camera choices when recording photographic images for the cinema/ television." Shot Types - a shot is a series of frames, that runs for an uninterrupted period of time. There are eight main shot types: Extreme Long Shot (XLS) - Shows the location. A wide view of a complete setting, such as a cityscape. Emphasis an expanse of space, isolation. grandeur or spectacle. This shot expresses how dramatic the scene is to the audience and puts into perspective how small the subjects are. Although they are small, you can see their full body and the entire set. Long Shot (LS) - Closer to subject, stills shows the complete scene. Used to establish a location, giving the audience the idea as to where the action will take place. This shot is closer to the subject but you can still ...

Press Release

Image
Question One: What is a Press Release? A press Release is an official statement issued to newspapers giving information on a particular matter. A press release is also a compelling personal story written to a newspaper, it is often targeted at a certain audience.  Press Release Examples:  This Press Release is eye-catching at first, as it has a photograph in its top left corner  (we read from right to left) and it has a bold title. However, it is not in colour and the text itself is very uninteresting and doesn't make me want to continue reading till the end - the paragraphs are too long. Overall, I think this is unsuccessful.  Again, this Press Release has the logo on the top left corner and includes a photograph - which is more eye-catching than the last as it has more colour. The amount of paragraphs is smaller than the first one which makes it easier to reader but one of them is very big and long-winded. Overall, this is slightly succ...

There are 25 fps in television  (video) in the UK. 2 x fields /sec (upper and lower fields) Lower can also be known as the Even, Upper can be known as Odd This is called 'Scanning of the Frame' Jaggies happen when you pause a video on a certain frame (happens because of the behaviour of the plain (interlaced) An extremely useful YouTube video by The Slow Mo Guys illustrates 'Scanning the Frame' as they use a phantom camera to record exactly what happens on a TV when slowed down significantly. i - interlaced, p - progressive 1080 (9) height, 1920 (16) width (frame, high definition) 16:9 aspect ratio 25 fps would be 50 fields per sec P.A.L (Phase Alternating Line)   We created 'bins' (like files) in Premier Pro, renamed and changed their colour's.

Analysing: Batman v Superman Trailer

Image
Form:  movie Genre's:  Action: the trailer displays a lot of violence, including guns and fighting. I would definitely class this as an action as the camera shots and the speed of the scenes are very fast. Sci-Fi: the trailer promotes a lot of extra-terrestrial life and is based around two main characters, one of which has super powers. Fantasy: the trailer, much like the Sci-Fi genre, conveys powers that humans can never have but many want (this aspect also supports Blumler & Katz' Uses and Gratifications Theory as it encourages viewers to be social). Target Audience:  The audience is mainly teenagers and older. According to stereotypes, men are also more likely to see this movie as action and crime is more of a male desire. Primary Function:  Entertain (educate as well as it's quite scientifical / has real life situations to learn from).
