Press Release

Question One: What is a Press Release?

A press Release is an official statement issued to newspapers giving information on a particular matter.

A press release is also a compelling personal story written to a newspaper, it is often targeted at a certain audience.

Press Release Examples:

This Press Release is eye-catching at first, as it has a photograph in its top left corner
(we read from right to left) and it has a bold title. However, it is not in colour and the text itself is very uninteresting and doesn't make me want to continue reading till the end - the paragraphs are too long. Overall, I think this is unsuccessful.

Again, this Press Release has the logo on the top left corner and includes a photograph - which is more eye-catching than the last as it has more colour. The amount of paragraphs is smaller than the first one which makes it easier to reader but one of them is very big and long-winded. Overall, this is slightly successful.

This one has more colour in the logo's, however no additional photograph. As well as this, the paragraphs are a lot more easy to read and are evenly spaced out. Overall, this is the most successful out of the three but would be better with a photograph.

Question Two: How did you create your Press Release?

In my Press Release I used a quotation taken from my favourite on-going TV show, Supernatural. It is a quote given by the character 'Frank', who is a man conscious about the government and good at tecnology (aka hacking). I believed this is fitting (aside the hacking part), as I am very good with technology. The headline I used is related to a nickname my friends have given me. Although they normally just call me Lettuce and the headline says "Fresh Lettuce", they also refere to me as the "Almighty Lettuce God". I feel that my Press Release outlines me as I've included my interests and other facts about me, so, I overall think it was successful.

Question Three: Explain the importance or Target Audience in the creation of this Press Release. Explain who your Target Audience was and how you approached this in the creation of your Press Release.

Finding out who my target audience is allows me to know who they are and what they'll be interested in, i.e. my media peers are more likely to be interested in what movies and video games I like as they are more likely to share those interests (as they are Level 3 Media and Film Studies students). As mentioned previously, my target audience was my peers, but also the rest of the college as they are all my age and are partaking in courses just like mine. I decided to approach the creation of press release a little informally as most teenagers are informal - making my press release in third person instead of first person would convey less formality in my writing.

Question Four:

a) Who do you think I am after reading my Press Release?
b) Do you think I'm interesting?
c) What was the most revealing or indicative element to the Press Release?

Tom
a) Big comic book fan, a large interest in art and design
b) yes
c) very suprised that I was into Graffiti

Patrick
a) a Lettuce, thinks I like the Sims
b) thinks I was very interesting
c) definitely that I was a Lettuce

Joe
a) creative, likes to think outside the box
b) yes, especially my passion for lettuce
c) the lettuce

Overall, my peers assessed that I was a very creative and all around media-obsessed person (in a positive way). All three of them agreed that I was very interesting and everyone but Tom found indicative that I liked Lettuce/ was nicknamed Lettuce.
