Three-point Lighting
Three point lighting is the three separate positions of the lights that allows the photographer to position the lights how they desire whist simultaneously controlling the shading and shadows that are on the subject.
The photographer can control the intensity on the light and its radius by opening and closing the lights "barn doors".
In a group, we explored Three-Point Lighting and how it an effect images and emotions. Here are our examples.
The Key Light is usually the lightest out of the three, this means it provides the most detail to the subject.
The Fill Light has a medium intensity and fills in all gaps of shadows left by the Key Light, this is so that the light is even across all of the subject's face.
The Hair Light illuminates the back of the subject so that they stand out from the background.
